OMG. I'M BAAACK! from obs. <3333 obs, i tell you. now that i have come back, i miss it even more. ohwells.
okay. so i was inspired to blog about obs since reading shuyun's blog. so here i am!
Day One Went to punggol jetty with my heavy bag. Was all must-have-mosquito-repellent-and-sunblock-and-lip-balm-ish! hahaha. anw, then we went to OBS Camp Two! met CINDY our instructor ( i miss her like shit now) and my group was BATTUTA! (until now, i only know that his name is abdullah bin something something battuta, no idea what he did) ooh, and my group members were Lisa, Monica, Grace, Amanda, Chu Ting, Joanne, Tze Yee, Shihui, Phui Sheen, Christina, Michelle Wee, Yin Shian, Ashwani, Gail, Ersalina and ME! then we did some self-intro and blah blah blah. and we went to eat lunch! which were only biscuits and oranges and apples and bread. we were all complaining about how pathetic it was. and the toilets were disgusting please. some lizard was FOSSILED there. with the innards as well. imprinted on the floor tiles. i was squirming please. HIANKEK WOULDNT SURVIVE FIVE MINUTES IN THERE. and we played blindfold games (the blindfold ending up as my eye patch in the night cause i couldnt stand the light outside the tent) and we went climbing that 3-metre thing with the super tight and vagina- hugging harness! seriously the belaying was fun but hurt like shit down there. and i couldnt tie the damn knot. after that was dinner and pitching tents! couldnt tie any of the tent knots :P and we cooked rice that was soggy outdoors with the solid fuel and bricks and everything. it was a lot of fun, although i got choked by the carbon. Fire drill after that, literally strolled to the assembly point please. Then it was lights out! the night in the tent was okay, i actually slept quite deeply (but come to think about it, i sleep deeply everywhere) oh wells.
Day Two Rockclimbing first. Didnt even climb past the red line. The harness didnt help. Joanne and Phui Sheen reached the top, which was like, at least 9m.Then, KAYAKING! the practice session anyway. Paired up with Lisa and went to camp one. i tell you, it is freaking unfair that the leaders get the BUNK BEDS AND THE TOILETS AND THE CATERED FOOD AND ALL THEY DO IS THE BANGBANG-AND-THE AH LIAN GAMES. damn pissing. and YOU wouldnt know anything, cause YOU havent experienced obs yet, you should have SEEN all our faces when we went to camp one okay. we literally spent like 15 minutes in the toilet SMELLING the cleaness of it. and the pitching of the tents were shit, cause the ground was all concrete underneath, so we couldnt push the tent pegs in. and the catered food was like, paradise please. no meal in obs was THAT satisfying. we were late and everything, and worried that we couldnt get to the cookhouse in time but we got food in the end! thereafter we had supper! ( you see what biased treatment they give to the leaders!) and LIGHTS OUT AT ELEVEN!
Day Three Went hiking with the fricking 5000kg backpack. 4 kg of water each, that is no joke, plus all the other barang barang we had to bring. Couldnt read the map for nuts, couldnt read the compass for biscuits (geddit?!) and couldnt carry the backpack for shit. (tsk, dont you geddit now?!?!) trekked like 5 km and bashed through the freaking forest housing a thousand million bugs and spiders the size of my palm (no kidding!). P.S. to kek: you would have died there anw, drank the isotonic drink which was tasteless, plus the chlorinated water from OBS' s very own reservoir (betcha didnt know that, did you?). how cool is that! ahem, only the reservoir part. i was the PACER! COUNTED EVERY STEP WE TOOK TO CALCULATE THE FUCKING DISTANCE cause we had to tally it with the map. almost drowned in the numbers can. rested every 2 minutes and almost couldnt make it to the next campsite before dark. jumped into the quarry cause the campsite had no light source, no water source and no electricity. so the quarry was the closest thing to a bath we could ever get there. spent half the time in the water trying to ration my clothes in my mind cause i thought i didnt bring enough dry ones : omg, and i SHITTED ON THE BEACH! and peed there too! most disgusting experience ever. i wanted to shit in the clean toilets in camp one, but my shit refused to cooperate with me and wanted me to suffer the experience of shovelling the bloody sand and shitting inside the fucking hole. i kept swearing as i was doing it and saying shit although i knew what lame pun that was. gosh, and the moment i pulled down my pants, a fucking boat had to come to shore and there were lights and i was not sure whether the boatmen saw my vagina. and we slept right next to an ant trail, dammit. ooh, and we woke up in the night for watch duty to keep a lookout for any wild boars ( i am serious)/ stray dogs/ illegal immigrants from johore. damn scary, i was so afraid that the illegal immigrants would sodomize and rape us. no kidding i tell you. kept shining the torch at the bushes and never felt so alert in my life :)
Day Four Couldnt brush my teeth cause there was no water source and spent the whole morning looking for my eyepatch which i thought i lost ( it was damn scary for me cause it was obs property) but i found it in the end! and we went for our kayaking expedition! the diamond formation was shit i tell you. there was like, no formation at all please. but me and lisa were the in front right behind the leaders who were yingwai and heidy! and some of us got seasick. not me though, cause i was sorta used to the waves and everything. took 2 hours to kayak from the ulu campsite back to camp two! along the way, saw some baby turtle which was mutilated and hanging on to a piece of floating wood with all the innards dribbling out of its mouth like the lizard in the toilet. ew. and when we beached up finally, we went for a jetty jump! damn thrilling! we had to walk literally on a wooden plank like the peter pan one and take a big step forward. was all scared of the jellyfish and the stingrays that could sting me. but it was SOOO fun! will do it a hundred times again (: had a buffet of canned food because it was the last night, heh. and we boiled ovaltine ontop of the fire! it was very good. and slept next to the beach feeling afraid of the wild boars in the forest next to us and the sandflies from the beach. and then we went for the solo nightwalk, which was basically finding yourself alone in the forest and trying to find your way back again. could hear all the wild boars snorting and saw fireflies! and i got lost. nearly actually. we werent supposed to switch on the torch but as i was walking on the supposedly pebble path, i felt leaves and plants around me, and cindy said that if we felt plants we were on the wrong track and i decided to switch on my torch and guess what. i found myself five steps away from the forest. literally. if i had not switched my torch on i would have walked right into the forest and would have gotten really lost. that was scary shit. oh yah, and i lost the eyepatch again! this time i really searched for a long time and couldnt find it, was panicking like shit and almost got a panic attack. was on the verge of crying and so i prayed. and the most miraculous thing happened. okay, so i was lying in the tent and praying and monica and joanne and lisa wanted to come in to sleep so i had to open the "door" for them so i got up and i turned around and found that i was actually lying on my eyepatch! and the most wonderful thing was, before i entered the tent i actually checked it throughly and didnt see anything at all, but when i got up it was just plainly lying there. THE POWER OF PRAYER.
Day Five Woke up and realised that it was the last day in OBS. feeling all melancholic and sad. Found that i had lost my toothbrush and that it was actually left behind in the ulu campsite whose beach i shitted on (retribution i tell you) and got thrown away by my own group members. *rolls eyes* Anyway, i was saying earlier that i thought that i didnt have enough clothes and when i checked my bag again, i found that i indeed had clean clothes and was all happy. then i realised that i didnt know if i had clean underwear. so i decided to wear my clean swimming costume underneath. but guess what? when i finished my bath and went back to keep my dirty clothing, I FOUND CLEAN UNDERWEAR! that was the lamest thing i tell you. i told everyone i met this story and everyone rolled their eyes at me. aww. jiayi was all "aiyah, fiona!!!!!!!!!" and i was like, "i know, i know! Dammit!" and shihui dropped her comb in the drain, became all frantic and we were all laughing at her. for those who dont know, shihui is the hair-and-comb freak who combs her hair while washing it, has 4 combs to herself, combs her hair in the exams except for amath and lit cause according to her, there is no time, and spends 40 minutes washing her hair in the bath, and only uses wooden or niu jiao (carved cow horn) combs cause she claims that plastic combs would damage her hair. phew. oh yah, and she's the one who admits that she combs her hair every five minutes, cannot live without her comb, must FAN dry her hair (not blow dry cause "oh,it will damage my hair!!") and will TRY not to bring her comb into the O' LEVEL examination hall. so now you see why we laughed our asses off when she dropped her comb. i almost choked on my orange when she did. i was sitting right beside her somemore. the impact the incident had on the whole group, YOU DONT KNOW. even the quote the instructor wrote at the back of our group photo for shihui was "adventure is not the guidebook, and BEAUTY is not on the map". it was fricking funny i tell you. bought some soveneirs(wahlau, how the fricking hell do you spell this word?!?!?!) home and finally bid goodbye to pulau ubin. poor amanda cried the whole journey home, that apollo(insider joke) girl. hugged everyone goodbye and went home at last.
now that i blog, i realised how fast time flies and how little time we had in OBS. not that i didnt have enough though, but we really bonded and everything, so i miss OBS a lot :( and cindy!!!!! BATTUTA HEARTS CINDY! she was really nice, even though we accused her of being married to kenneth, the cheng ho instructor. it was hilarious. the conversation went like this:
battuta: arent you married to kenneth?! cindy: *guffaws like shit* OMIGOD! NO!!! OMIGOD! battuta: oh cindy: *sees kenneth and waves him over* KENNETH!!! battuta: NOOOO! GO BACK TO YOUR GROUP! OH SHIT!!!! KENNETH DO NOT COME OVER!!!! *waves frantically* kenneth: yes? cindy: kenneth, am i married to you? kenneth: *pauses* YES, DEAR. cindy: *laughs like shit* omigod! kenneth: did you tell them about the children and the dogs? cindy: yah, and the puppies right? kenneth and battuta: HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH!
SO HILARIOUS! KENNETH HAS A GIRLFRIEND BY THE WAY (NOT SHUYUN SO SHUDDUP) AND IT WAS SUCH A BIG MISUNDERSTANDING PLEASE. but i think that was the funniest part of OBS, besides the shihui incident. <333 Cindy.
so this basically sums up the whole OBS for me. cant believe its over. seems like 10 years since i left civilisation. ohwells, as daphne the instructor said, the actual outward bound for us is out there, our lives and destinies and all the challenges life would provide for us, and it all depends on us, on how we want to face all these obstacles, and hopefully the lessons we learnt in OBS would guide us through and we will emerge as survivors!
